Playing for the Oakland Raiders isn’t for everyone
Rodney Hudson Jersey , especially not Amari Cooper. You can clearly see that from his time with the Raiders to the Dallas Cowboys, who he now plays for. He forced himself to smile when he was first taken No. 4 overall by the Raiders in 2015. Then when he signed his contract, he couldn’t get himself to smile, giving the appearance that he was not all that happy to be a Raider. He is so talented and skilled, he balled out his first two years with the Raiders anyway. Then from 2017 up to his trade to the Dallas this past season, he seemed to have lost his passion. The Raiders questioned that passion as Michael Lombardi spoke about it on The Ringer NFL Show back in October. “I don’t think they think Amari Cooper has got great passion for the sport,” Lombardi said. “I don’t think they think he loves football. That’s what I’m hearing coming out of that building. I think they’re worried about his contract moving forward. It doesn’t sound like they are interested in giving him that kind of deal so they’re going to tear this thing down.”Since Cooper arrived with the Cowboys, he looks to have found his passion. He had a genuine smile that reflected it in a postgame interview on FOX after leading his Cowboys to a win over the Philadelphia Eagles back in early December.“I told Aaron Andrews that you know this is really a dream come true when I thought of playing in the NFL as a youth,” Cooper said. “This is the perfect example of that from everything from the city, the facilities, winning, watching that defense out there, watching this offense out here, it’s a dream come true.”So playing in the NFL period isn’t a dream come true?Is it that hard going from a big-time program at Alabama to Oakland and playing on a baseball field? He grateful now to move on to Dallas and be on a playoff team with his 7 catches for 106 yards helping the Cowboys in their Wild Card win over the Seahawks. Facing the Rams on Saturday, he had another 6 catches for 65 yards and a touchdown. And showed some fight in him he hasn’t been known for.Marcus Peters beat up on Cooper when he was with the Kansas City Chiefs and Cooper was with the Raiders all the time while talking crap to him. Now suddenly, when he’s a Cowboy and and Peters is a Ram Lamarcus Joyner Jersey , he’s a fighter that doesn’t want to accept losing in his playoff loss last Saturday. That’s the dog or competitive spirit he should have had when he was with the Raiders. That quality should be one the Raiders look for in the 2019 NFL Draft to replace Coop.Raiders preseason week three snap counts vs Packers: Doug Martin finally gets extended work with not great results It was a surprise last week when Doug Martin was among those who didn’t dress against the Rams. Some thought he was in a competition for a roster spot. There was plenty of evidence to suggest his roster spot was secure, and sitting out that game with Marshawn Lynch was arguably the most glaring proof of that.Last week offensive coordinator Greg Olson said Martin and Lynch would get ‘a couple thuds’ in the game and then be pulled. Lynch ended up getting no ‘thuds’ while Martin got 6 of them on 16 snaps.Prior to these 16 snaps, Martin had seen a total of four snaps this preseason. Four. With just one carry for three yards. That’s right at his yard per carry average the past two seasons. How that earns starter treatment is a bit of a mystery. But Gruden is convinced.“He’s showed us a lot,” Gruden said of Martin. “We think he’s a really good back.”What he’s shown Gruden has been all in practice. When defenders aren’t allowed to tackle to the ground. What he showed in his 20 preseason snaps hasn’t quite as convincing.Martin has run the ball 7 times for 27 yards (3.8 ypc). He broke out left untouched in the game Friday night for a 16-yard gain. His carries between the tackles left you a bit concerned. They went for 3, 3, 0, 0, 3, and 2 yards (1.8 yards per carry). We are going to need to see more. Even if Gruden doesn’t.Snap countsTonguereseason week three snap countsOffenseDefenseSpecial Tms (select)OffenseDefenseSpecial Tms (select)NotesBig Grinerek Carr and the first team offensive skill position players saw one series before exiting the game. The first team offensive line stayed on the field when Connor Cook entered for the second series. They played into the second quarter as Gruden said they would.Seth Roberts had missed the first two preseason games with an undisclosed injury. Presumably to make up for lost time, Roberts led all Raiders players on either side of the ball in snaps (51) playing 73% of the offensive snaps. Despite his extended playing time, Roberts saw just one target and it fell incomplete. It was a shot at the end zone from short yardage that EJ Manuel overthrew. Two other targets were nullified by penalties.Shilique Calhoun led all Raiders players in total snaps with 48 on defense (63%) and 13 on special teams (50%). In that time, he had one sack, 2 tackles for loss, and 2 QB hits.Johnny Holton played 17 snaps on special teams (74%), but didn’t see a snap on offense.Donald Penn played 20 snaps (29%) in his debut at right tackle. See a breakdown of rough outing here.Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was signed this week and played nine snaps in the game (12%).Follow @LeviDamien
