Linux Mint 19.2 "Tina" Enters Beta, Based on Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS and Linux 4.15
The Linux Mint project released the beta version of the upcoming Linux Mint 19.2 "Tina" operating system, the second major update to the Linux Mint 19 series, based on the Ubuntu 18.04 LTS operating system.

Available in Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce editions, the Linux Mint 19.2 "Tina" beta release is now available for public testing to give the community an early taste of what to expect from the final release early this fall. As expected, Linux Mint 19.2 will be based on the Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS (Bionic Beaver) operating system and the Linux 4.15 kernel. Linux Mint 19.2 beta features the Cinnamon 4.2, MATE 1.22, and Xfce 4.12 desktop environments, and will receive security and software updates until year 2023. It brings various enhancements like better Linux kernel support and lots of significant improvements in Update Manager, a new look and feel for System Reports, as well as minor changes to Software Manager and Software Sources tools. "You no longer need to install or remove kernels one by one anymore, you can queue installations and removals and install and remove multiple kernels in one go," reads the release notes.

"Support for kernel flavors was added. If you've got a non-generic kernel installed, the Update Manager will show a combobox so you can switch between flavors." Other than that, Linux Mint 19.2 beta adds some minor improvements to the Xreader, Xed, and Pix apps, a new login screen option for specifying a delay for automatic logins, the Boot-Repair utility to the ISO images, Flatpak support for the Mint-Y, Mint-Y-Dark and Mint-Y-Darker themes, and the Ubuntu fonts by default. "Linux Mint 19.2 "Tina" expected to be released this fall" The final release of the Linux Mint 19.2 "Tina" operating system is expected to be released sometime at the end of summer or early this fall for all flavors, including Cinnamon, MATE, and Xfce.

Users will be encouraged to upgrade to Linux Mint 19.2 as future versions of Linux Mint will use the same package base until year 2020. The Linux Mint team will not work on a new base, but focus all of their efforts on the Linux Mint 19.2 one until the year 2020.  Meanwhile, you can download the Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon beta, Linux Mint 19.2 MATE beta, and Linux Mint 19.2 Xfce beta releases right now from our free software portal if you want to take them for a test drive on your personal computers.
