How to Choose the Perfect Piece of Your Watch OS
The Apple Watch Series 1 is easier to find from third-party retailers, but Apple has now stopped selling the device.

Along with Series 1, Apple has announced the Series 2 watch (which we call Apple Watch 2 to simplify things). This brought new technology such as integrated GPS and water resistance and a slightly larger battery.

Apple no longer sells the Watch Series 2, but you can purchase it from a limited number of third-party retailers.

The 2017 smartwatch is called the Apple Watch Series 3 and comes with LTE technology (if desired) as well as a variety of fitness features and improved GPS.

Apple Watch Series 4 followed in 2018 with a larger screen than other versions and a few new heart rate features, too - allegedly accurate enough to detect atrial fibrillation (AFib), abnormal heart rates that could signify behavior worrying.

Finally, we have the 2019 edition, the Apple Watch Series 5, which introduced a permanent display: when you are not looking directly at the watch, it switches to a minimal monochromatic version of your watch face so that you can read the 'hour. For the first time, the Apple Watch has its own standalone App Store, allowing you to download directly to the watch rather than via an iPhone.

There are also small additions like a new internal Compass app that allows more specific location information, like altitude - which in turn lets the Maps app know which direction you're headed . Small, but crucial.

Apple Watch price comparison
The pricing of the Apple Watch largely depends on the age of the product. If you want the Apple Watch Series 1, you can find it for a lot less money than the Apple Watch 5.

Below we have a live widget that will show you the latest deals for all versions of the Apple Watch if you want to see the exact price right now. Keep in mind that you can also get the Apple Watch 5, 4, or 3 on a contract because of LTE functionality, and you can't do that for the other two devices.

You can no longer easily buy the original Apple Watch, so here we are going to narrow the differences between the watches called Apple Watch Series 1, Apple Watch 2, Apple Watch 3, Apple Watch 4 and Apple Watch 5.

Until the Apple Watch 4, the series was very similar in design. (The Apple Watch 5 is virtually identical to its predecessor.) There have been some minor changes, but the Apple Watch 4 connecta1(.)com/read-blog/416_top-watches-for-runners-2019.html marks the first time you can buy it in 40mm or 44mm variants. This allows for a slightly larger screen, and there is also haptic feedback on the digital crown.

Apple Watch 3 and earlier versions are available in 38mm or 42mm versions. However, only the Apple Watch 2 and Apple Watch 3 are waterproof, so don't try to take the original watch into the pool with you.

Pin up

All generations of the Apple Watch have square displays, but the technology used differs. The Apple Watch featured an OLED Retina display with Force Touch at 450 nits, while the latter models have improved technology that works at 1000 nits. The Apple Watch 4 also comes with a larger screen.

The Apple Watch 5 has an always-on screen - a software trick that switches your watch face to a monochrome, minimalist version that uses less energy.

You don't need a huge amount of power in the Apple Watch, but each generation that goes by has been a little brighter. Series 1 has an Apple S1P system on a chip, while Series 2, Series 3 and Series 4 have S2, S3 or S4 in that order. As expected, the Apple Watch 5 has an S5 chip.

Each watch has 512 MB of RAM, with the exception of the Apple Watch 3, which has 768 MB. Subsequently, Apple stopped advertising the amount of RAM provided in its smart watches, so it's likely that the Apple Watch 4 has the same 768 MB as its predecessor. The Apple Watch 5 would have more, which could be up to 1 GB.

The Apple Watch 5 has 32 GB of local storage, part of which is occupied by watchOS but the rest can store music or other media locally. That's double the 16 GB of Apple Watch 4 and Apple Watch 3.
